What is the PTA?
The PTA is the Parent Teacher Association. The PTA is an independent not-for-profit organization established by parents for parents to support and enhance their children’s learning and school experience.
All parents of PS59 students are automatically members of the Parent Teacher Association of PS 59, Inc. (“PTA of PS 59”). The objectives of the PTA are:

to provide support and resources to the school for the benefit and educational growth of the children;

to develop a cooperative working relationship between the parents and staff of our school;

to develop parent leadership and build capacity for greater involvement; to foster and encourage parent participation on all levels;

to provide opportunities and encourage parents to participate in school governance and decision-making.
How do I become a member of the PTA?
When your child or children were enrolled at PS 59, you became a member of the PTA. No forms or membership application fees are required.
Should I attend PTA meetings?
Yes. All parents are invited to attend the monthly general meetings.
When are the PTA general meetings held?
The general meetings are held on the 3rd Thursday of each month from September to June at 8:45 am in the cafeteria located on the 5th floor. Occasionally, the meeting may be re-scheduled. When that occurs, a notice is sent to all parents notifying them of the change.
How do I become involved in the PTA?
Attend the general meetings or talk to any of the PTA officers about becoming involved in the PTA. The PTA is always looking for new volunteers and officers. You can also sign up for volunteering with the PTA’s Volunteer Administrator.
What are the positions on the PTA’s Executive Board?
The Executive Board is made up of the PTA officers and up to 8 Members-at-Large. The Executive Board members of the PTA serve two consecutive one-year terms which begin July 1 and end June 30. The current officers of the PTA are President or Co-Presidents (2), First Vice-President or Co-First Vice-Presidents (2), Second Vice-President or Co-Second Vice-Presidents, Vice-President of Fundraising or Co-Vice Presidents of Fundraising (2), Vice-President of Event Management or Co-Vice Presidents of Event Management, Treasurer or Co-Treasurers (2), Secretary or Co-Secretaries (2).
What Enrichment Programs are supported by the PTA?
As part of your child or children’s learning experience at PS 59, they will receive additional enrichment through various programs offered by the school’s administration and funded by the PTA. Each enrichment program is carefully selected to enhance or expand one or more areas of learning and development, including the following:
